Tunga

Palmares, PE, 1952 –

Rio de Janeiro, RJ, 2016.

Tunga's exclusive Pavilion at the Inhotim Institute is dedicated to the artist not only for his relevance, but also for playing an important part in advising Bernardo Paz (1949), owner of the museum, to invest in contemporary art. True Rouge, Tunga's artwork, was the first to join the museum's collection.

A multimedia artist, his work comprises drawing, sculpture, installation, video and performance. Since the 1970s, he has had intense interaction with the artists Waltércio Caldas, Cildo Meirelles, José Resende and Ronaldo Brito. Tunga has exhibited at the most recognized venues in the world, such as the PS1 - MoMA of New York and the pyramid of Louvre in Paris, and will have his work displayed at the São Paulo Biennial. The theme of the 31st Biennial (How To Speak of Things That Do Not Exist) relates well with Tunga's artwork, which constructs non-existent worlds.
